Abstract:
We review some important robust control problems for distributed parameter systems: robust stabilization, mixed sensitivity minimization, and strong stabilization (feedback stabilization by a stable controller). Computational tools are presented for finding infinite-dimensional optimal controllers. Alternative finite-dimensional controller design methods are illustrated via a benchmark example (retarded time-delay systems with finitely many unstable poles). Also, a new family of robust controllers is presented for a large class of unstable distributed parameter systems, and related open problems are discussed.
